Initially, their shared curiosity about the time-traveling call and their mutual experiences as victims of domestic violence bring them closer. However, the relationship takes a dark turn when Ru Mei kills her abusive husband. Feeling abandoned by Meng Jia, Ru Mei's repeated attempts to reconnect fail, leading her to start a crazed campaign of revenge against Meng Jia.
